Boliteceras perlatum was named by Whitehouse (1928) [DISTRIBUTION: Albian; Australia.]. It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Hughenden Station, Flinders River [Tambo Series], which is in an Albian carbonate limestone in Australia.
