Teichertia was named by Glenister et al. (1956) [Sepkoski's age data: T Dani T Eo Sepkoski's reference number: 524]. Its type is Teichertia prora.

It was assigned to Nautiloidea by Glenister et al. (1956); to Hercoglossidae by Shimansky (1975); and to Nautilida by Sepkoski (2002).
