Taxonomy
Orthosuchus was named by Nash (1968). It was considered monophyletic by Nesbitt (2011).
It was assigned to Stegomosuchidae by Walker (1970); to Protosuchia by Wu et al. (1994), Wu et al. (1997), Ortega et al. (2000), Fiorelli and Calvo (2008); to Crocodyliformes by Pol and Norell (2004), Zaher et al. (2006), Nesbitt (2011); to Protosuchia by Bronzati et al. (2012); to Protosuchidae by Buscalioni (2017); and to Notochampsidae by Ellenberger (1970), Dollman and Clark (2021).
