Taxonomy
Xenocheilus was named by Shimansky (1957) [Sepkoski's age data: J u K Barr Sepkoski's reference number: 524]. Its type is Nautilus malbosi.

It was assigned to Nautilida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pseudonautilidae by Shimansky (1957), Teichert et al. (1964), Shimansky (1975), Jain et al. (2024).
