Taxonomy
Curtoceras was named by Ulrich et al. (1942) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-u O Llde-u Sepkoski's reference number: 298,524]. Its type is Lituites eatoni.

It was assigned to Trocholitidae by Teichert et al. (1964), Crick (1981), Kröger and Landing (2009), Kröger and Aubrechtova (2017).
