It was assigned to Ephippiformes by Jordan (1963); to Chaetodontoidea by Casier (1966); to Perciformes by Carnevale et al. (2014); to Moroniformes by Nelson et al. (2016); and to Ephippiformes by Betancur et al. (2013), van der Laan (2019).
