Taxonomy
Archoceras was named by Schindewolf (1937) [Sepkoski's age data: D Give-u D Fame-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1042]. It is not extant. Its type is Archoceras paeckelmanni. It is the type genus of Archoceratidae.

It was assigned to Anarcestida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Archoceratinae by Korn and Klug (2002), Korn (2006).
