Taxonomy

Beloceras was named by Hyatt (1884) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fras-m D Fras-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302,1042]. It is not extant. Its type is Goniatites sagittarius. It is the type genus of Belocerataceae, Beloceratidae, Beloceratinae.

It was assigned to Beloceratinae by Yatskov (1990); to Anarcestida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Beloceratidae by Korn and Klug (2002), Korn (2006).
