Taxonomy
Mimosphinctes was named by Eichenberg (1931) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi-l D Emsi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302,457]. It is not extant. Its type is Mimosphinctes tripartitus. It is the type genus of Mimosphinctaceae, Mimosphinctidae, Mimosphinctinae.

It was assigned to Anarcestida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Mimosphinctinae by Arkell et al. (1957), Korn and Klug (2002), Korn (2006).
