Sandbergeroceras was named by Hyatt (1894) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fras-l D Fras-m Sepkoski's reference number: 392,1042]. It is the type genus of Sandbergeroceratinae.
It was synonymized subjectively with Triainoceras by Korn and Klug (2002).
It was assigned to Sandbergeroceratinae by Arkell et al. (1957); to Anarcestida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Triainoceratidae by Korn (2006).
