Sellagoniatites was named by House (1963) [Sepkoski's age data: D Give-l Sepkoski's reference number: 457]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Sellagoniatitinae.
It was assigned to Anarcestida by Sepkoski (2002); to Sellagoniatitinae by Korn and Klug (2002); and to Agoniatitidae by Korn (2006).
