Convoluticeras was named by Erben (1960) [Sepkoski's age data: D Sieg-l D Emsi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 457,1103]. It is not extant. Its type is Teicherticeras (Convoluticeras) lardeuxi.

It was reranked as Teicherticeras (Convoluticeras) by Bogoslovsky (1980).

It was assigned to Teicherticeras by Bogoslovsky (1980); to Anarcestida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Palaeogoniatitinae by Korn and Klug (2002), Korn (2006).
