Taxonomy
Ammonellipsites was named by Parkinson (1822) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-u C Vise-l Sepkoski's reference number: 304]. It is not extant. Its type is Ellipsolithes funatus. It is the type genus of Ammonellipsitinae.
It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Ammonellipsitinae by Korn (2006), Furnish et al. (2009), Ebbighausen et al. (2010).
