Murex turricula was named by Montagu (1803) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Western Atlantic.]. It is extant.
It was recombined as Pleurotoma turricula by Wood (1848); it was recombined as Bela turricula by Tryon (1884) and Kobelt (1905); it was recombined as Lora turricula by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Propebela turricula by Bogdanov (1990), Hendy et al. (2008).
