Cancelloceras was named by Ruzhencev and Bogoslovskaya (1969) [Sepkoski's age data: C Bash-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant.
It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Gastrioceratidae by Titus (1997), Korn (2006), Furnish et al. (2009), Korn et al. (2021).
