Taxonomy

Cheiloceras was named by Frech (1897) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-l D Fame-m Sepkoski's reference number: 302,1042]. It is not extant. Its type is Goniatites subpartitus. It is the type genus of Cheiloceratidae, Cheiloceratinae.

It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cheiloceratinae by Korn and Klug (2002), Korn (2006).
