Ankyramorpha was named by deBraga and Reisz (1996). It is not extant. It was considered monophyletic by deBraga and Reisz (1996) and Modesto and Reisz (2008).

It was synonymized subjectively with Procolophonomorpha by Modesto (2000).

It was assigned to Parareptilia by deBraga and Reisz (1996); to Parareptilia by Modesto and Reisz (2008) and Falconnet (2012); and to Procolophonomorpha by Reisz et al. (2014).
