Cardavia hafi
Taxonomy
Cardavia hafi was named by Kříž (2005). Its type specimen is MGM 3553 S, a shell (One right valve), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Section north-west of the El Pobo de Dueñas, which is in a Telychian coastal shale in the Bádenas Formation of Spain.

Inner surface sculpture formed by narrow radial ribs and gutters preserved except in posterior part where they are only as crenulations. Growth sculpture formed by regularly spaced flat growth bands and furrows, more numerous in gerontic stage, similar to the Silurian genus Cardiola. Hinge line straight, shorter than the shell length, with five peg-like taxodont teeth well developed anteriorly. Low triangular area.
Description. Shell small, equivalved, inequilateral, prosocline, broadly ovate in outline, higher than longer, obese. Anterior slope of valve steeper than posterior slope. Prominent umbones in anterior position, prosogyrate. Inner surface sculpture formed by narrow radial ribs and gutters preserved in posterior part. In other parts of the margin crenulations are developed. Growth sculpture similar to the Silurian genus Cardiola and formed by regularly spaced flat growth bands (more than 13) and furrows, wider in umbonal part, narrower and more numerous in gerontic stage. Hinge line straight, shorter than the length of the shell with five peg-like taxodont teeth developed anteriorly (Pl. 1, fig. 2). Low triangular area. |
