Taxonomy
Gastrioceras was named by Hyatt (1884) [Sepkoski's age data: C Bash-l C Bash-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302,304]. It is not extant. Its type is Ammonites listeri. It is the type genus of Gastrioceratidae.
It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Gastrioceratidae by Korn (2006), Furnish et al. (2009), Korn et al. (2021).
