Gleboceras was named by Ruzhentsev (1950) [Sepkoski's age data: C Step-u]. Its type is Gleboceras mirandum. It is the type genus of Gleboceratinae.
It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Thalassoceratidae by Korn (2006); and to Gleboceratinae by Furnish et al. (2009).
