Taxonomy
Nomismoceras was named by Foord and Crick (1897) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 954]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Nomismocerataceae, Nomismoceratidae.

It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Nomismoceratidae by Korn (2006), Furnish et al. (2009), Korn and Sudar (2016).
