Taxonomy
Pachylyroceras was named by Ruzhentsev and Bogoslovskaya (1971) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302,304]. Its type is Lyrogoniatites cloudi.

It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Lyrogoniatitinae by Korn (2006), Furnish et al. (2009); and to Neoglyphioceratidae by Korn and Titus (2015).
