Paralytoceras was named by Frech (1902) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Pseudarietitinae by Korn (2006); and to Pseudarietitidae by Furnish et al. (2009).
