Taxonomy
Pericyclus was named by Mojsisovics (1882) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Tour-u Sepkoski's reference number: 304,954]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Goniatites (Pericyclus) by Delepine (1940); it was reranked as Ammonellipsites (Pericyclus) by Gordon (1964).

It was assigned to Goniatites by Delepine (1940); to Ammonellipsites by Gordon (1964); to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pericyclinae by Korn (2006), Furnish et al. (2009).
