Hoare 1993Aviculopecten with strongly convex left valve; slightly prosocline; auricles small, depressed, distinctly set off from body by deep sulci; hingeline short; anterior auricle with seven fine costae; posterior auricle with 7-8 fine costae; valve body with 57 + narrow, radiating costae with wider interspaces; costae increase by intercalation with a few larger than others; costae crossed by numerous, fine, growth lines; right valve with deep sulci separating auricles from valve body; body orna-mented with numerous, flat, indistinct, radiating costae; costae also present within posterior sulcus and on ventral portion of posterior auricle, disappear on dorsal portion of posterior auricle and on anterior auricle; comarginal growth lines prominent on both auricles.

Aviculopecten batesvillensis Girty, 1915, from the Batesville Sandstone of Arkansas, has a broader form [than A. aff. A. caneyanus] and more closely spaced costae.
