Taxonomy
Rotopericyclus was named by Turner (1948) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Vise-l Sepkoski's reference number: 304,954,1042]. It is not extant. Its type is Pericyclus rotuliformis.

It was reranked as Pericyclus (Rotopericyclus) by Arkell et al. (1957).

It was assigned to Pericyclus by Arkell et al. (1957); to Maxigoniatitidae by Korn et al. (1999); to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Pericyclinae by Korn (2006), Furnish et al. (2009); and to Rotopericyclinae by Korn et al. (2010).
