Taxonomy
Surenites was named by Ruzhencev and Bogoslovskaya (1975) [Sepkoski's age data: C Bash-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302,304]. It is not extant. Its type is Surenites krestovnikovi. It is the type genus of Surenitidae.

It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Surenitidae by Korn (2006); and to Surenitinae by Furnish et al. (2009).
