Prodromites was named by Smith and Weller (1901) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Tour-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Prolecanitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Prodromitidae by Korn (2006), Furnish et al. (2009).
