Pegmavalvula triassica was named by Newell and Boyd (1995). Its type specimen is AMNH 43336, a valve (Right valve), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is AMNH B7977, which is in a Spathian shallow subtidal limestone in the Moenkopi Formation of Nevada.
