Araxoceras was named by Ruzhencev (1959) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad-u P Dora Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Araxoceratidae by Tozer (1981), Leonova (2002); and to Araxoceratinae by Korn (2006).
