Cycloceltites was named by Mojsisovics (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Rhae Sepkoski's reference number: 302].

It was assigned to Celtitidae by Spath (1951); to Cycloceltitidae by Tozer (1979), Tozer (1981), Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
