Epiceratites was named by Diener (1915) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Carn-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302].

It was assigned to Buchitidae by Spath (1951); to Aplococeratidae by Tozer (1981), Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
