Hyolithes tenuis was named by Resser and Endo (1937) [COMMENTS: Poor preservation of type specimens for this species renders it's diagnosis incomplete and it's generic identifications doubtful. TYPE SPECIMEN: = lectotype. TAPHONOMY: This species is known from steinkers that are broken at both ends and partially embedded in limestone, so that relatively few morphologic details are observable.]. Its type specimen is USNM 86720-1-2, a partial shell, and it is a mold.
