Himavatites was named by Diener (1906) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori-m Sepkoski's reference number: 302].

It was assigned to Cyrtopleuritidae by Spath (1951), Tatzreiter (1981) and Tozer (1981); to Cyrtopleuritinae by Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
