Taxonomy
Inyoites was named by Hyatt and Smith (1905) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Inyoites oweni. It is the type genus of Inyoitidae, Inyoitinae.

It was assigned to Inyoitinae by Spath (1934); to Xenoceltitidae by Kummel and Steele (1962); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Inyoitidae by Tozer (1981), Zakharov and Moussavi Abnavi (2013), Brayard et al. (2013).
