Taxonomy
Spongiopsammia amitrovi was named by Kuzmicheva (1987). Its type locality is Dnipropetrovsk, Mandrikovka Formation, which is in a Priabonian perireef or subreef limestone in the Mandrikovka Formation of Ukraine. It is the type species of Spongiopsammia.
