Metatibetites was named by Zhao and Wang (1976) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Tibetitidae by Tozer (1981); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
