Taxonomy

Nucula speluncaria was named by Geinitz (1848).

It was recombined as Leda speluncaria by Howse (1857), Geinitz (1861), Langenhan (1899); it was recombined as Nuculana speluncaria by Newell (1955), Muromtseva (1981); it was recombined as Phestia speluncaria by Logan (1967), Fang (1987).
