Hamites glaber was named by Whiteaves (1884) [TYPE SPECIMEN: Based on lectotype.]. Its type specimen is GSC 4962, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Cyrtochilus glaber by Anderson (1958); it was recombined as Ptychoceras (Diptychoceras) glaber by McLearn (1972).
