Taxonomy
Ammonites crenocostatus was named by Whiteaves (1876). Its type specimen is GSC 4987, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was synonymized subjectively with Lytoceras batesi by Stanton (1895); it was recombined as Ammonoceratites crenocostatus by McLearn (1972).
