Proptychitoides was named by Spath (1930) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Proptychitoides decipiens.
It was assigned to Proptychitinae by Tozer (1981); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Proptychitidae by Spath (1934), Kummel (1969), Brayard et al. (2009).
