Taxonomy
Kossmatella was named by Jacob (1907) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-l K Ceno-l]. Its type is Ammonites agassizianus. It is the type genus of Kossmatellinae.

It was reranked as Lytoceras (Kossmatella) by Böse (1923) and Anderson (1938).

It was assigned to Lytoceras by Böse (1923) and Anderson (1938); to Gaudryceratinae by Wright et al. (1996); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); to Kossmatellinae by Szives (2007); to Tetragonitinae by Hoffmann (2010); and to Gaudryceratidae by Kennedy and Klinger (1979) and El Qot (2018).
