Taxonomy
Sphenodiscus dumbli was named by Cragin (1893). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Epengonoceras dumbli by Spath (1924) and Barber (1957); it was misspelled as Metengonoceras dumblei by Diener (1925); it was recombined as Metengonoceras dumbli by Hyatt (1903), Kennedy et al. (1981), Cobban (1983), Cobban (1987), Meister et al. (1992) and Aly et al. (2008).
