Taxonomy
Tropiceltites was named by Mojsisovics (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Clydonites costatus. It is the type genus of Tropiceltitidae.

It was assigned to Tropitidae by Smith (1927); to Tropiceltitidae by Spath (1951), Tozer (1981), Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
