Placenticeras fritschi was named by de Grossouvre (1894). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is La Ribochère, Villedieu-le-Château, which is in a Coniacian carbonate limestone in the Craie de Villedieu Formation of France.
It was recombined as Proplacenticeras fritschi by Böse (1928).
