Gaudryceras kayei

Taxonomy

Ammonites kayei was named by Forbes (1846). Its type specimen is BMNH C51050, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pondicherry, which is in a Maastrichtian marine sandstone/claystone in the Valudavur Formation of India.

It was recombined as Lytoceras (Gaudryceras) kayei by Anderson (1902), Anderson (1958); it was recombined as Gaudryceras (Vertebrites) kayei by Matsumoto (1959); it was recombined as Vertebrites kayei by Kennedy and Klinger (1979), Morozumi (1985); it was recombined as Gaudryceras kayei by Böse (1928), Henderson and McNamara (1985), Kennedy and Henderson (1992), Ward and Kennedy (1993), Kennedy (1999), Arkadiev et al. (2000), Salazar et al. (2010).

Synonyms

Lytoceras (Gaudryceras) coalingense was named by Anderson (1958). Its type specimen is CAS 61892.01, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS Loc. 2362 - Coalinga [Ragged Valley Shale], which is in a Maastrichtian marine shale in the Ragged Valley Shale Formation of California.

It was synonymized subjectively with Anagaudryceras mikobokense by Matsumoto (1959); it was synonymized subjectively with Vertebrites kayei by Kennedy and Klinger (1979).
Lytoceras (Gaudryceras) birkhauseri was named by Anderson (1958). Its type specimen is CAS 61891.01, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS Loc. 2361 - Joaquin Ridge [Ragged Valley Shale], which is in a Maastrichtian marine shale in the Ragged Valley Shale Formation of California.

It was synonymized subjectively with Gaudryceras (Vertebrites) kayei by Matsumoto (1959); it was synonymized subjectively with Vertebrites kayei by Kennedy and Klinger (1979).
