Acanthohoplites was named by Sinzow (1908) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti-u]. It is the type genus of Acanthoplitinae, Acanthohoplitoidea.
It was corrected as Acanthoplites by Renz (1982).
It was assigned to Parahoplitidae by Renz (1982); to Acanthoplitinae by Stoyanow (1949), Förster (1975) and Wright et al. (1996); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); to Acanthohoplitinae by Szives (2007), Lehmann et al. (2019) and Matsukawa (2021); and to Acanthohoplitidae by Frau (2023).
It was corrected as Acanthoplites by Renz (1982).
