Taxonomy
Ammonites nicolletii was named by Morton (1842). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Scaphites nicolletii by Meek and Hayden (1856); it was recombined as Discoscaphites nicolletii by Reeside (1927); it was recombined as Scaphites (Hoploscaphites) nicolletii by Jeletzky (1952); it was recombined as Hoploscaphites nicolletii by Landman and Waage (1993).
