Oxytropidoceras karsteni was named by Stieler (1920). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Oxytropidoceras (Benavidesites) karsteni by Cooper (1982); it was recombined as Oxytropidoceras (Venezoliceras) karsteni by Renz (1982), El Qot (2018).
