Taxonomy
Mammites powelli was named by Kennedy et al. (1987). Its type specimen is OUM KT205, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Calvert Canyon, which is in a Turonian offshore shale in the Ojinaga Formation of Texas.
